Hi Boujee Philosophers!

In today’s post, I discuss the gendered relationship dynamics within the Black American community from the lens of Toni Morrison’s 10 steps of Fascism from her 1995 essay Racism and Fascism. While my perspective was specific and nuanced for my racial community, the ideas that Morrison pose are not.

All around us, we are witnessing the demonization and dehumanization of various peoples. There is an amorphous ‘them’ that has been branded the enemy by the American government and many American citizens and they are enacting each of the 10 steps that are laid out by Morrison. The question, as always, is:

what do we do at this moment in our human history?

Below are a few ideas for what we can be doing to resist the systemic psychological, emotional, and physical violence being enacted on us.
