The weight of waking up was heavier than it usually is; and that’s saying alot, because the weight of this world crusades to crush my personhood with every inch of progress. But today, today the weight felt heavy and deep. The vastness of it re-emerging in my field of vision once again.
The dogwhislte of DEI when ‘nigger’ would serve quicker and more precise to your feelings, to the weight of discontent that’s yours to spew and mine to shoulder. Or maybe yours to spew and shoulder as my boulders build community instead of silos. But the reality is, I’ve always said it with my WHOLE CHEST. Said that your distraction tactics require the weight of your guilt and shame . You tactics neccessitate confusion and disallusion in order to detract from the hollowness of your being.
We’ve got DEI mayors and DEI country albums and we’re not finished. We’re not finished outshining your hatred. We’re not done being entertained by how you make fools of yourselves with your lack of creativity for your humanity. See, the weight of waking up was heavier today, not because I’m a DEI professional who can hear you whisper your epithets with venom and a veneer of perverse giddiness. No, the weight is heavier because I woke up reminded of how full existence is for me.
For us.
The DEI us. The joy and creativity. The laughter, care, and vulnerability. The struggle and redemption. The weight of our full existence is deep and vast and it is re-emerging around us as the DEI in all of us shines through. The weight of waking up was heavier today. A weight we carry happily through life and experience. A weighted reminder of our Determination. Evolution. and Innovation. Our DEI.
